The Fair Oaks Water District has lacked accountability and transparency for years.
It’s time for a change in leadership. Three out of five board seats are up for re-election this November and the other two are up for a recall.
Issues
- Concerns Over Rate Increases: The recent 25% increase raises concerns about its justification and fairness. We need leaders who will ensure our financial interests are prioritized and protected, making certain that any rate hikes are necessary. Safeguard our funds from unjustified increases.
- Misguided Priorities: Is $7 million for a maintenance yard the best use of our money? This misguided allocation shows a lack of understanding of our community's real needs. It’s time for a change. Support our efforts to bring accountable and community-focused leadership to the Fair Oaks Water District.
- Ensuring Transparency and Accountability: Our water district should work for us, not against us. We believe the current board’s decisions and financial management practices lack the transparency and accountability our community deserves.
- Preventing Future Dysfunction: Don’t let Fair Oaks follow in the footsteps of Florin County’s dysfunction and financial mismanagement. We need proactive and responsible leadership to avoid similar issues. Stand with us to bring in leaders who will safeguard our water and finances.
- Community Empowerment: Our community deserves a say in how our water district is managed. By recalling the two current board members and electing three new representatives this November, we can ensure our concerns are truly listened to and acted upon. Empower yourself and your community by supporting the recall and voting in the upcoming election.
- Accountability in Action: Accountability means making tough decisions in the best interest of the community. We believe the current board’s lack of transparency and questionable financial decisions highlight the need for change. Support replacing the current board members to hold them accountable and pave the way for better governance.
- Establishment of a Citizens Oversight Committee: We have demanded the Water Board adopt common sense reforms, like establishing a citizens oversight committee. This committee, composed of a diverse group of community members and stakeholders, will provide independent oversight of the district's financial practices and decisions.
- Implementation of Participatory Budgeting: We insist that the board adopt participatory budgeting practices without delay. This process allows community members to have a direct say in how public funds are allocated, fostering greater transparency and engagement. Participatory budgeting should be integrated into budget workshops to ensure the community's voice is heard and respected in the decision-making process.
- Ethics and Campaign Finance Reform Policy: We have called for the adoption of an Ethics and Campaign Finance Reform Policy and Resolution to safeguard ratepayer dollars and protect our community from pay-to-play politics. This policy aims to prohibit campaign contributions from entities with vested interests in district decisions, enhance transparency, and promote accountability.
